2016 Hilton Head Motoring Festival: Concours d'Elegance, Auctions America, and Car Club Showcase

November, 2016 -- Despite having endured the effects of Hurricane Matthew just a few short weeks ago, the Hilton Head community is up and running, full speed ahead. The Hilton Head Motoring Festival (HHMF), which has become one of the most anticipated events on the Island, began with the Savannah Speed Classic (see our coverage) and culminated with the Concours d'Elegance on November 6 at the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head Island. The Car Club Showcase, also held at the Port Royal Golf Club, and Auctions America's car auction, held at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort and Spa, were two other headlining events.

Here are some of the sights and sounds at the Hilton Head Motoring Festival.

Auctions America Sales

Auctions America, the official auction company for the Hilton Head Motoring Festival, returned to Hilton Head for its second year. A 2004 Porsche Carrera GT topped the leder board as the biggest sale at this year’s auction. The sale was made in after-auction negotiations. A 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 captured the second highest sales spot (see the below video). But, the biggest sales surprise of the day was for a car that might be the most original of its kind - a 1957 Porsche 356A. Bidding on this “time capsule” Porsche started strong with multiple bidders, and didn’t end until the final price paid was three times the estimate. Here are some of the cars at this year's auction.

2004 Porsche Carrera GT Sold for $800,000 (including commission) 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra Sold for $726,000 (including commission)
1957 Porsche 356A Barn Find Sold for $665,500 (including commission)
2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition Sold for $305,250 (including commission)
1936 Ford Woodie Sold for $40,700 (including commission)
1965 Volkswagen Beetle with Camping Trailer and Boat Sold for $29,700 (including commission)

2016 Car Club Showcase Cars

The Car Club Showcase features car clubs from throughout the Southeast and beyond. These clubs, which select ten cars that best represents their passion, are separated into either American or European classes. This year's European entrants featured cars of Germany, with clubs representing BMW, Porsche, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The Car Club Showcase is held the day preceding the Concours d'Elegance. What a warmup act!
